Family Empowerment Summer Activities Connect Families
Family Empowerment, a Pathlight program of ServiceNet, is helping families connect with other families this summer, not only through insightful program events, but also through their fun summer classes.
The program’s summer activities have been an exciting way of bringing families together for memorable moments. In July, they offered a wide variety of classes for participating families, including dance, pickleball, art, and adaptive cycling classes. An adaptive kayaking event is scheduled to take place later in August.
A highlight of the season was the July 25 art show at ArtSpace, where Family Empowerment participants showcased their work during Greenfield’s monthly ArtWalk, a monthly event for the entire town where participating galleries and organizations showcase local artists on the last Friday of each month. The artists, friends, and family visited the gallery, admiring the various paintings and collages on display.
The artwork was generated just a few days earlier, on July 22 with the adult class and July 23 with the children’s class, during Free Art sessions led by Program Director Angie Hawk and other Family Empowerment staff. More than two dozen children and adults explored painting and collaging with a variety of materials.
Later this month, on August 23, Family Empowerment will team up with All Out Adventures to host an adaptive kayaking event, offering another opportunity for families to enjoy the outdoors together before summer winds down.
Family Empowerment is a family support center program for Hampshire and Franklin County. The program assists families with loved ones who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, connecting them and helping them find resources.
