Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism Awards Autism Connections $7,500 Autism Community Impact Grant

The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism has awarded Autism Connections $7,500 through the Autism Community Impact Grant.

A significant portion of the Flutie Foundation grant will go toward a special fund to help families needing financial assistance to attend the 34th Annual Autism Conference hosted by Autism Connections. Part of the grant funds will support Autism Connection’s year-round programs such as support groups and social activities.

The Conference will take place on April 30th at the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel. The rest of the funds will be used in various ways to support Autism Connections.

“We are so grateful to be the recipients of this grant,” said Karen Serra, ServiceNet Vice President of Family Services, “This money will help us support families wanting to attend the Autism Conference. We hope that they will learn more about autism and inspire themselves and others. This grant lets us continue working on improving the lives of autistic individuals and their families in our community.”

The Autism Community Impact Grant is awarded through an application process and historically supports traditionally under-served, under-funded, culturally diverse communities reflected in the Flutie Foundation’s areas of impact.

Autism Connections, a Pathlight program of ServiceNet, provides information, resources, and practical help for children, teens and adults with autism, as well as their families, caregivers, friends and professionals throughout Western Massachusetts. Their offices are in Springfield, Northampton, Greenfield and Pittsfield.

About the Flutie Foundation

Former NFL Quarterback, Doug Flutie, and his wife Laurie started the Doug Flutie, Jr. Flutie Foundation for Autism in 1998 after their son, Dougie, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Their experience of raising a son with autism inspired them to help others on the challenging journey. Over its history, the Flutie Foundation has distributed over $20 million to schools and organizations who provide clinical therapies, recreational programs, social skills training, and more for people with autism. The Flutie Foundation also provides education technology tools, adaptive camp scholarships, safety equipment, and direct family support through its partnerships and special initiatives.
