Down Syndrome Resource Group Hosts Celebration Ahead of World Down Syndrome Day
On March 8, the Down Syndrome Resource Group of Western Massachusetts (DSRGWM) hosted a celebration at the Castle of Knights in Chicopee, bringing together more than 300 attendees—roughly 100 more than last year—to honor individuals with Down syndrome ahead of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21. 3/21 represents three copies of the 21st chromosome or trisomy 21, which is the most common form of Down syndrome.

The Down Syndrome Resource Group of Western Massachusetts hosted a celebration ahead of World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.
Thanks to funds raised through the group’s annual Buddy Walk in October, the event was free for all guests. DSRGWM is also coving the attendance fee for members interested in the upcoming Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress Conference on March 29.
The celebration featured music, games, and entertainment for all ages. Many guests filled the dance floor as a DJ played popular hits, while younger attendees enjoyed games, crafts, and a visit from the group’s mascot ‘Buddy the Bear’. A buffet meal and an ice cream sundae bar added to the festivities. Throughout the event, a slideshow projected special moments from families—showcasing personal milestones, new experiences, and the joy of the occasion.
With the theme “We Believe,” the gathering reflected DSRGWM’s mission to discover, encourage, and embrace the potential of individuals with Down syndrome.
Through fundraising, community building activities, educational and social opportunities, the DSRG support individuals with Down syndrome and their families and caregivers across Western Mass.
